Ivana C. "Sam" Newman

Grand Lake Stream – Ivana C. “Sam” Newman, 81, passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 5, 2019 at her home in Grand Lake Stream. Sam was born in Norristown, PA on May 27, 1937, daughter of Ivan and India Price.

After retirement, Sam and her husband Alfred “Skip” Newman, fulfilled their longtime dream and moved to Maine in 1995. They never looked back and enjoyed every minute spent in Maine immensely. Sam was passionately involved with Grand Lake Stream Congregational Church and the Grand Lake Stream Historical Society. She was happiest when her family, especially her grandchildren, would travel from near and far to visit her little piece of heaven.

In addition to her parents, Sam was predeceased by her first husband T.J. DeLany; the love of her life, husband Alfred “Skip” Newman; and two children, Sandra McCloskey and Scott Newman. Surviving are her children, Stephen Newman and wife Mary of OH, Jyll DeLany of CO, T. Jack DeLany of PA, Jayne Fode of CO, Darrin Newman and wife Rhonda of PA, and Stacy Newhart and husband Glenn of FL; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her brother Ivan Price and wife Barbara of CA; sister-in-law Gladys (Newman) Bittner of PA; and many dear friends.

A celebration of Sam’s life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the Grand Lake Stream Congregational Church, 9 Church St., Grand Lake Stream with Pastor Ray Morse officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sam’s memory may be made to the Grand Lake Stream Congregational Church, 9 Church St., Grand Lake Stream, ME 04668.
