Obituary for James William Elliott

Eastport & Augusta James William Elliott, 55, passed away at his home in Eastport, Maine on September 8, 2012 with his loving wife Cindy by his side. Jim was born in Augusta on September 21, 1956 to Harold & Irene (Virgin) Elliott. He was educated in Augusta Schools and graduated from Cony High School class of 1975. Jim had a very strong work ethic. His first job was as a paperboy for the Kennebec Journal in the Capitol District. As soon as he was old enough to get a work permit he started working part time and than full time at the Bates Mill in Augusta. Many jobs followed including painting for Sid Pare & Son, Hallowell Shoe and part-owner of Green Acres Landscaping along with his brother Harold. Jim had currently been employed for the past ten years for the City Of Eastport as the Supervisor/Caretaker of Hillside Cemetery. A job he took great pride in. Jim would always joke that he had thousands of customers and none ever complained! While living in Augusta he was a member of the Sharpies Cossack Drill team, The Boy Scouts of America, Augusta Little League and was an Altar Boy for St. Mary's church. Jim was also a member of the Eastport Volunteer Fire Department. Jim loved to go out to his camp in Pembroke and "take it easy" eating lots of lobster & clams, going fishing and watching old TV shows from Netflix! Simple pleasures was his treasure! He also loved to putter around in his shop and make things. He loved his New England Patriots and having a few beers and cheering them on with loud gusto! Jim also enjoyed participating in the Eastport Pirate Festival and the Eastport 4th of July celebration where he loved to show his vintage 1957 Mercury Pick-up. Jim had a big laugh and a big gift of gab which he would share with many! Jim is survived by his wife of 24 years Cindy (Brown) Elliott, his step-children Irene Wade of Manchester and Brad Shaw of Biddeford; and Step-Grandchildren, Michael, Steven, Lauren and Sarah Sirois all of Manchester. He is also survived by his mom Irene Elliott of Augusta, 3 siblings Harold, Jeffrey and Elizabeth Elliott all of Augusta; 4 nieces, Krista, Katie, Courtney and Camryn. Also his amazing 104 year old grandmother Gertrude Virgin of Augusta. He was pre-deceased by his father Harold F. Elliott Sr.; a sister Elaine; his favorite uncle Howard Elliott; and his best friend Keith Merrill. A graveside service will be held at the Hillside Cemetery Eastport in the old section on September 11, 2012 at 2:00PM. A gathering will be held at the "LOVESHACK" after the service. All are welcome!!! Arrangements made by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.maysfuneralhome.com
