James K. Luhmann

James Keith Luhmann, 79, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, at his home in Calais.  James was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, on February 10, 1945, son of George and Margaret (Lainhart) Luhmann.

James graduated from Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, NY, Class of 1963.  Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War.  In 1966, James returned to New York where he started his career as an RV salesman.  His career took him throughout the United States, living in Georgia, Colorado, and Indiana.  After retiring, James moved to Maine to help take care of his mother.  He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed watching sports and movies, and going for car rides exploring.  His many pets; Bud, Eddie, Millie and Genius were his companions in his many explorations.

James was predeceased by his parents, George and Margaret Luhmann.  Surviving are his siblings, sister Gail Richter and husband Dale of Glenmont, NY, and Gary Luhmann of Calais, ME; two nieces, Rachel Richter and wife Natalie Lynch of Boston, MA, and Jenny Richter and husband Shawn Fennelly of Selkirk, NY; two nephews, Bob Luhmann of Brewer, ME, and Keith Luhmann and wife Jessica of Verona, NJ; two grandnieces, Amelia and Elena; a grandnephew Elliot; and his caregiver and dear friend, Marsha Lund, who went above and beyond. 

In keeping with James’ wishes, there will be no services.  Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
