Calais – James Leigh McDonald, 64, passed away at his home Monday evening, September 3, 2007 after a long battle with cancer, with his family by his side. Jim was born in Manchester, NH, May 12, 1943, son of the late John and Florence (Young) McDonald. On September 28, 1963, he married Beverly Pollock in Manchester, NH. Jim was active in his community. He was a founding member of the International Festival, a member and Past President of Rotary International, a coach for the Calais Little League, served on the Calais School Board, the Calais City Board of Appeals, and the Calais Chamber of Commerce. He worked for the Newberry’s Company for 35 years, for Marden’s of Calais for ten years, and recently, Billet Welding. Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Tharpe of San Jacinto, CA. Surviving are his loving wife of over 43 years, Beverly; his children, James McDonald Jr. of Shamong, NJ, Jill and John and his significant other, Eilene Brown of Calais; sisters, Ethel Chaput of Hookset, NH, Muriel Sprague of Manchester, NH, and Janet Butler of West Roxbury, MA; a brother, John McDonald of Allenstown, NH; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6- 8 Thursday at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Chris Stevens officiating.
