Calais – James Edward Monaghan, 88, left this world to be reunited with the love of his life Phyllis on Thursday, December 6, 2012. James was born in Milltown, ME on December 4, 1924, son of the late Hugh and Anna (Howard) Monaghan. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Biloxi. James retired from Woodland Pulp & Paper in 1986 after 36 years of dedicated service. His greatest joy in life was spending time with family at Cozy Cove, the family camp on Pleasant Lake. In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis (Cornish) Monaghan. Surviving are his five children, Priscilla Hatt and her husband Danny, Mary McLean and her husband Ted, Paul Monaghan and his wife Karen, Diane King and her husband Paul, and James Monaghan Jr. and his wife Janet; eleven grandchildren, Jason Hatt, Krista Hanson and her husband Troy, Melissa Manza, Matthew King, Chasity Tuell and her husband Joey, Jennifer Woodside and her husband Brandon, Jonathan King, Ashley McLean, Alison Monaghan, Whitney Monaghan and Connor Monaghan; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters Beatrice Bailey and Eleanor LaBarre; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of James’ life will be held in the funeral home 1 p.m. Sunday. Burial will follow in Calais Cemetery with military honors.
