James P. White

James Paul White, 73, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023, at Down East Community Hospital in Machias.  Jimmy was born in Caribou on February 22, 1950, son of Perley and Hazel (Lynch) White.

Jimmy worked at the Frank Beckett Center in Calais.  He was a proud participant of Living Innovations and often competed in the Special Olympics.  Jimmy loved sports, attending Celtics and Red Sox games, and was a loyal Shead Tiger fan.  He enjoyed country music and attending concerts in Bangor.  Jimmy loved the local kids and could be found most days holding open the school doors as children left to board their buses.  He was a member of the Washington Street Baptist Church.  Jimmy loved living by the water and enjoyed going to the ferry landing and the breakwater to watch the ships. 

In addition to his parents Perley and Hazel White, Jimmy was predeceased by his foster parents of over 40 years, Stella and Dick Young.  Surviving are his biological family, brother Jerry White and sister Sally White; his foster family, the Youngs of Eastport, ME, Scott his caregiver for the last 14 years, Penny, Bonny, Richard, and Roger, and the Theriaults of Caribou, ME, Christine, Pit, Brenda, Michael, and Ricky; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

His siblings Jerry and Sally are eternally grateful for the love and support the Youngs and Theriaults provided Jimmy after the loss of their mother when he was a baby.

A Celebration of Jimmy’s Life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2023, at 49 Clark St., Eastport, ME.  A private burial will take place in the Old Holy Rosary Cemetery in Caribou.  Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
