Calais – Jane Anne Farrar, 75, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011 in Calais. Jane was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick on September 18, 1936, daughter of Reuben and Lois (Boyd) Brown. She often spoke fondly of her childhood memories growing up in Kellyland, Maine. She graduated from Calais Academy, Class of 1954, and married Richard Farrar on January 12, 1955. She was a legal secretary for local attorneys and then pursued a career teaching preschoolers through the Preschool Awake program. She continued teaching as an English instructor for Washington County Community College and as a GED instructor for the Passamaquoddy Tribe. Jane was a talented writer of poetry and song as well as a talented singer and musician. Her beautiful and vibrant voice still resonates in the memories of family and friends. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines singing group and a local quartet called The Treble Tones, as well as a member of the Calais United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. Over many years she contributed articles to the local newspapers and will also be remembered to many as their local Avon representative. She loved to spend her summers at her cottage on Round Pond. In addition to her parents, Jane was predeceased by two brothers, Earl and Dale Brown, and a sister Vera Allen. Surviving are her loving husband of 56 years, Richard Farrar of Calais; three children, Stephen Farrar and his wife Paula of Charlotte, Cathy Farrar-Ehsasi and her husband Mohammed of Berlin, Germany, and David Farrar of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Jamie Farrar and wife Lea Ellen of Calais, Nathan Farrar and his wife Jennifer of Charlotte, and Arman and Kean Ehsasi of Berlin, Germany; four great-grandchildren, Sydney, Chloe, Alyssa and Gaige Farrar; a brother Blair Brown and his wife Stella of Ohio; cousin Ruth Barr and husband Vernon of Canada; many nieces and nephews; long-time friend, Betty Sherrard; and many other dear friends. A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Calais Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
