Indian Township – Jane Bessey Tinker, 62, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Calais Regional Hospital. Jane was born in Indian Township on December 10, 1947, daughter of the late Alfred and Madeline (Socoby) Devoe. After graduating from Princeton High School, she worked for Georgia Pacific, bookkeeper and police dispatcher for Indian Township, and eventually became a bilingual teacher for Indian Township. Jane retired in 2009 with over 20 years as a teacher. She loved helping others and became a cook last year for the Elderly Meal Site. Jane enjoyed quilting, fishing, canning and playing Bingo. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by four brothers, Alfred and Lewey Devoe and Arnold and Lawrence LaCoote; and three sisters, Annie Devoe, Darlene Socoby and Mabel Newell. Surviving are her four children, Sherri Mitchell and her husband Seth of Indian Island, Angela Tinker of Bangor, John Tinker and his partner Eugene Roskom of Princeton, and Penny Storey and her husband Robert of Princeton; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Devoe of New Brunswick and Libby of Presque Isle; three brothers, Clifford Devoe of Indian Township, Charles Ray Devoe of Princeton, and Basil LaCoote and his wife Grace of Indian Township; her Godmother Doris Chapman; an uncle Alfred Socoby; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will begin 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, at the Elderly Meal Site, Indian Township, until 10 a.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father James Plourde 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann R.C. Church, Peter Dana Point. Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Tribal Cemetery, Peter Dana Point.
