Baileyville – Jean Louise Bishop, 85, passed away Friday, November 08, 2013 at Calais Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born in Mattawamkeag on June 19, 1928, daughter of the late William and Grace (Rideout) Foss. She graduated from Mattawamkeag High School and worked in her family’s restaurant and as a telephone operator until she married Norman Bishop on December 18, 1950. In 1964 they moved to Saint John, NB, where Jean was active in the women’s lady barbershop called Sea Belles, as well as several other quartets. In 1978 they moved to Baileyville . For a few years Jean and Norman owned and operated a café in Baileyville. She was a Communicant of St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Baileyville where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed spending time with her family, she loved music, and enjoyed singing, crosswords, and playing cards.
In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband Norman; a son Steven; and a brother Harvey Foss. Surviving are four children, Pam Bishop and her companion Ann Ost of Harvey, NB, Pattie Morrisey and her companion David MacKay of Hampton, NB, Kerry Perry and her husband Barney of Baileyville, and Scott Bishop of Portsmouth, NH; six grandchildren, Stephanie McCarthy and her companion Matt Ryan of Saint John, NB, Angela Rowe and her husband Harry of Saint John, NB, Derrick Perry and Jordan Perry both of Baileyville, Monica Bishop and her companion Carmen Bernardini of Bangor, and Ryan Bishop of Charleston, SC; five great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Ethan McCarthy, Kayla McCarthy, and Deklan and Gavin Rowe; two sisters, Barbara Smith of Dorion, Quebec, and Marilyn Noddin of Millinocket; two brothers, Malcolm Foss and his wife Lois of Mattawamkeag, and Wesley Foss and his wife Carole of Mattawamkeag; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Baileyville. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
