Jeannette S. Harris

Jeannette Sigrid Harris, 94, passed away surrounded by family at her home on Harris Point on Monday, August 7, 2023.  Jeannette was born in Perry on December 28, 1928.

Jeannie was raised in Perry and attended Shead Memorial High School.  On November 25, 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, George Harris.  Jeannie worked in the office of her husband’s business, Passamaquoddy Yacht Company, and helped operate the family business at Harris Point for over 50 years.  She was an over 50-year member of the Pythian Sisters and enjoyed attending their gatherings throughout Maine and Canada.  In later years Jeannie and George enjoyed traveling.  Family was most important to them, especially spending time with the grandchildren.

Jeannie was predeceased by her mother Clara Sullivan Ramsdell and stepfather Alonzo Ramsdell; her beloved husband George Harris Sr.; grandson Eugene Newcomb Jr.; a brother George Ramsdell; and a sister Lou Urquhart.  Surviving are her four children, Lee Harris and wife Gloria of Perry, Linda Newcomb and husband Eugene of Perry, George “Butch” Harris and wife Janna of Perry, and Susan Garnett and husband Wayne of Dennysville; grandchildren Shawn Harris and wife Denise of Perry, Shelley Arsenault and husband Robert of Eastport, Tracy Gardner and husband Frank of Edmunds, Anthony Newcomb and wife Melissa of Eastport, Halie Harris of Old Town, Matthew Harris of Perry, John Garnett and fiancé Mallory Drew of Dennysville, and Jason Garnett and companion Jaylen Moore of Dennysville; great-grandchildren, Jodie Griffin and husband Alex, Alex Harris, Hayden Gardner and wife Natalie, and Justin, Graeson, Fulton and Harrison Newcomb; great-great grandchildren, Caitlynn and Layla Gardner; brother-in-law William Urquhart of Eastport; special niece Tari Camick and husband Ricky; special nephew Glynn Urquhart and wife Toby; many nieces and nephews; and dear friend Diane Mitchell. 

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Bayside Cemetery in Eastport.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Jeannie's memory may be made to the Eugene Newcomb Jr. Scholarship Fund, c/o Shead High School.  Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.  Condolences and memories may be shared at www.MaysFuneralHome.com
