Obituary for Jeffrey Willard Guire

Baring Plantation and Princeton – Jeffrey Willard Guire, 67, passed away surrounded by his loving family Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Jeff was born in Middletown, CT on November 10, 1949, son of Daniel and Dorothy (Ketchen) Guire.

After graduating from high school in Durham, CT, he attended New Hampshire College in Manchester, NH, where he studied Business. While there, he met his future wife, Marian Higgins. Jeff left school when he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. While home on leave, he married his love, Marian in Camden in 1969. Following his service, Jeff returned to Connecticut where he attended Middlesex Community College and worked construction for his family’s contracting businesses. He was hired at Pratt & Whitney testing jet engines until Jeff and Marian decided to move to Maine. Eventually settling in Baring Plantation, Jeff and Marian owned and operated The Triangle. Initially the business included pets and scuba diving equipment until Jeff and Marian decided to focus strictly on plants and changed the name to HeatherWood Gardens. Until his passing, Jeff was still active in the business.

Jeff was a NAUI Scuba Diver, and a former member of the Princeton Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed being in the outdoors scuba diving, snowmobiling, boating, riding ATV’s, and operating heavy equipment.

In addition to his parents Daniel and Dorothy, Jeff was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Robert Higgins and his wife Patricia. Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Marian Guire; three children, Heather Hale and husband Dana of Fort Fairfield, Cathy Hertz and husband Colin of Topsham, and Jeffrey Guire and wife Erin of Baring Plantation; eight grandchildren, Poppy, Emmalyne and Sullivan Hale, Katherine and Benjamin Hertz, and Shaylee, Evan and Nathan Guire; an aunt, Janet Ketchen of Meddybemps; two brothers, Donald Guire and wife Carol, and Alan Guire and companion Paula Williams, all of Middletown, CT; sister-in-law Barbara Simonton of Camden; nieces and nephews, Mike, Marcia, Jenny, Julie, Matthew, Carolyn, Mike and Tianna; and many cousins.

Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, in the funeral home. Burial will follow with military honors in Baring Cemetery.
