Calais and Cary Plantation – John Francis Cody, 85, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Madigan Estates in Houlton. John was born in Milltown, NB on April 18, 1933, son of James Francis and Lillian Mary Cody.
After attending Milltown High School, John worked in the woods until joining the Canadian Army, serving with the Engineering Battalion. John returned home and worked for Hugh Gardner Heating & Plumbing until starting his career with Georgia Pacific. Throughout his career with Georgia Pacific, John worked with the paper and forestry divisions, retiring in 1995 from GP’s OSB plant. On August 8, 1959, he married his love, Frances Howard. John was a member and Past President of St. Croix Country Club and enjoyed golfing, baseball, hockey and traveling.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by an infant son, John F. Cody Jr.; brothers James, Charles and Joe Cody; and sisters Evelyn Damon and Jean Comeau. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Frances Cody of Cary Plantation; two sons, William Cody and companion Gayle McNally of Calais, and Kevin Cody of Cary Plantation; two grandchildren, Taylor Cody and companion Brandon Hagan of Carmel, and Will Cody of Calais; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Bryson Hagan; sister Lillian Murphy of St. Stephen, NB; brother-in-law William Howard of Calais; two sisters-in-law, Isabelle Cody of Nova Scotia, and Marjorie Rowe of Calais; many nieces and nephews; and special nieces, Sandra Rowe of Baileyville, and Trina Peterson of Walworth, WI.
A celebration of John’s life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Burial will follow in Calais Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
