John Garfield Homan Jr., 80, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. John was born at Pleasant Point on June 6, 1943, son of John and Deorah (Dana) Homan Sr.
After attending school at Pleasant Point, as a young man John moved to Boston, MA, where he worked for the public works department for several years. He eventually returned home and married Lulu Dana in 1981. Throughout the years John worked as a seasonal worker. Family was everything to John and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan. John also enjoyed playing horseshoes, darts, cribbage, and ping pong.
In addition to his parents John and Deorah, John was predeceased by a daughter, Melanie Dana; two sisters, Nora Day and Gayle Stanley; and a brother David Homan. Surviving are his wife Lulu Homan; three children, Aboluwes Dana, Juliann Homan, and Eunice Elizabeth Homan and her companion Robert Osmann; seventeen grandchildren, Laura, Morgan, Caleb, Joseph, Chelsea, Brayden, Nevaeh, Lorene, Shelby, Emmah, Eli, Aboluwes, Raelie, Alex, Sidney, Helena, and John; three great-grandchildren, Brewer, Emmett, and Leia; a sister Peggy Pottle; two brothers, Louis Homan and Arnold Francis; special niece Andrea Dana; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend Chico.
Visitation will begin 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at his home, 13 Middle Rd., Pleasant Point, until 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9. A Celebration of John’s Life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Sipayik Tribal Office. Burial will follow in the Tribal Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
