Obituary for John Hornbrook

Calais - John Skiffington Hornbrook, 85, died December 22, 2018 in Bangor. John was born in Calais, Maine on May 6, 1933, the son of James and Annie (Donahue) Hornbrook.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Calais, served in the National Guard, was a member of the Lions Club, and was self-employed in the painting, construction, and property management businesses. He had fond memories of working projects for the US Government in Bucks Harbor and of restoring the Roosevelt Cottage on Campobello Island. He enjoyed playing sports in his youth, especially basketball. He loved spending time at his home on Pleasant Lake, and enjoyed socializing with friends. He was happiest when planning his next project or when fixing-things-up and was active until his demise.

John leaves behind his wife, Betty and son, James “Jim” who both miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his brother William “Bill” Hornbrook and is survived by his brother Willard “Sonny” Hornbrook. He also leaves behind his step-daughters Sheila Hill and Sheree Casey Turner, four grandchildren Dustin Goodwin, Ryan and Jessica Hornbrook, and Alyssia Turner and great grandchild Marlee. He also leaves behind John Marchese, who was like a son to him, and is survived by his niece Julie Boies and nephews Gregg and Mark Hornbrook.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Kevin J. Martin, 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church, Calais Avenue in Calais. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
