Obituary for John Robert Newcomb

Perry - John R. Newcomb, 84, beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, went to be with the Lord July 12, 2007. He was born in Perry, February 1, 1923, the son of Oscar and Annie (Lincoln) Newcomb. John was involved in the sardine industry as a fisherman on the Perry shore, owned and operated Grove Farms for over 70 years and worked as a carpenter. John was an active citizen in the town of Perry. He served on the board of selectmen and school board for many years. He was a fire chief on the Perry Volunteer Fire Department. He was founding member of the Sunrise Squares square dance club and worked on sesquincentennial events as a member of the Perry Improvement Association. John was on the Perry Farmer’s Union board of directors. He served on the FHA board. John is survived by his daughter, Deborah; his son, Gregory and his wife Louise of Perry; four grandchildren, William and his wife Kathy, Ivy and her husband John Turner, Anne and her husband Nicholas Biter, all of Perry, and John and his wife Erin of Eastport; six great-grandchildren, Madilyn and Ashlyn Newcomb of Eastport, Elizabeth, Katie and Charles Bitar and J.D. Turner, all of Perry; and several nieces and nephews. A private burial will take place in Leland Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
