Pleasant Point – John K. Taylor, 76, passed away on October 3, 2018 at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Bangor following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. John was born in Mesa, AZ on December 26, 1941, son of Irving and Della (Fleeman) Taylor.
John was an electrician by trade and worked in the Downeast Maine area as such for many years. He also worked at Beatrice Rafferty School for 24 years as the maintenance man before his retirement. John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 53 years, Jane Taylor; daughter Carol Ann Taylor-Sprague and husband Alan; grandchildren, Cody and Paige; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Colby; his sister, Vicki Sutherland; sisters-in-law, Hilda, Nancy and husband Mike, Lena and husband Ken, and Fran and husband Cliv; and brother-in-law, Melvin and wife Joan. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, along with four he helped raise, Mary, Robert, Susanne and Kevin Soctomah.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 starting at 2 p.m. at his home, 9 Side Rd, Pleasant Point, until 10 a.m. Saturday. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father Kevin Martin 11 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2018 at St. Joseph Church, 51 Washington St., Eastport. Following the Mass, a gathering will be held at the home of Fran and Cliv, 274 Old Eastport Rd., Perry. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to either Maine Veteran’s Home of Bangor, or Beacon Hospice. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
