Obituary for John Joseph Tkach

Robbinston – John Joseph Tkach, 78, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Calais Regional Hospital. John was born in New Jersey on June 18, 1930, son of the late John and Barbara Tkach. At a young age, John’s family moved to Czechoslovakia. At the age of 19, John moved back to New Jersey, working as a mason building homes, on the assembly line for General Motors, and finally with US Metal Refining Company in Carteret, NJ, where he worked until his retirement. John married Susan Orak on Nov. 20, 1954 in Linden, NJ. He was a Communicant of St. Raphael’s R.C. Church in Lehigh Acres, FL, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and as a 3rd Degree Knight. When John and his wife relocated to Maine, he attended Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Calais. John enjoyed going for walks, gardening, swimming and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Savka and her husband Edward. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Susan Tkach; three sons, John S. Tkach, MD and his wife Kerri of Robbinston, Stephen Tkach and his wife Margaret of Bridgewater, NJ, and Kenneth Tkach and his wife Veronica of Bound Brook, NJ; a sister, Anna Petty and her husband Joseph of Hollywood, FL; eleven grandchildren, Stacie Tkach and her fiance Kevin Dougherty of Bangor, John R. Tkach of Old Town, Sydney Seaver-Tkach, Jordan and Jesston Tkach, all three of Robbinston, Jamie, Kathryn and Lisa Tkach of Bridgewater, NJ, and Kenneth M., Jessica and Christopher Tkach of Bound Brook, NJ. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Rev. James Plourde officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Raphael’s R.C. Church in Lehigh Acres, FL. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park (239-334-4880) in Ft. Myers, FL.
