John Whittaker

Grand Lake Stream – John “Ken” Kendig Whittaker, 73, died Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Ken was born in Washington, DC on May 10, 1934, son of the late Donald and Roberta (Hopkins) Whittaker. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army, 590th Transportation Company. After leaving the Army, Ken worked for the Forest Service in California before moving to New Jersey, where he worked in local construction. He married Elizabeth Jean Shiffer on April 1, 1967 in East Orange, New Jersey. His love of the woods, hunting and fishing brought him to Maine in 1980, where he was a Master Maine Guide and carpenter for the last 27 years. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Whittaker; two daughters, Sarah Curtis and husband Phil and their three children, Lisa, Emily and Kristen of Rincon, Georgia, and Elizabeth Whittaker and fiancé Dr. Brian Trezak and daughter Claire of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; and two faithful canine companions, Max and Jenny. A Celebration of Ken’s Life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2007 at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, Church St., Calais, with Father David Sivret officiating. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais.
