Eastport – Joseph Michael Kratky Jr., 77, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home. Joseph was born in Bridgeport, CT on January 31, 1933, son of the late Joseph and Anna (Batovic) Kratky. He graduated from Danbury High School in CT, Class of 1951. Joseph entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. He returned to Connecticut and started his own company, J&J Masonry, which he owned for over 15 years, and became a heavy equipment operator. Later in life, Joseph and his wife Nancy moved to Eastport where he bought a scallop boat and fished scallops and lobster for many years. He was a life member of the Calais Rod & Gun Club and enjoyed wood carving, trap shooting, reading westerns, traveling, and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Robert Kratky; and his canine fishing partner Champ. Surviving are his wife of 54 years Nancy (Oatis) Kratky; four children, Stephan Kratky and his wife Hilary of Pittsford, VT, Kathleen Mott and her husband Kenneth of Sheridan, WY, Sally Russell and her husband Patrick of Clermont, FL, and Ruth Chisholm and her husband Michael of Trumball, CT; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two nephews; a niece; and his faithful canine companion Roxie.
