Joseph Steven Nicholas

Pleasant Point - Joseph Steven Nicholas, 71, passed away on June 26th, 2022. Joseph, also known as Steve was born in Eastport, Maine on April 23rd, 1951, son of Joseph “Cozy” Nicholas and Alice Nicholas.

Steve graduated from Shead Memorial High School, class of 1971, and attended WCCC for carpentry. He also worked for Housing building homes for a few years. After that, he worked at the Super Saver grocery store and also Georgia Pacific doing maintenance work. Steve’s favorite job was working for the Pleasant Point Police department. He then was a caretaker for both of his parents until they passed. Steve also served as a Eucharistic minister for the church for about 40 years. His passion was traditional dancing which he began in 1965 with his dad.

In addition to his parents, Steve was predeceased by sister Diane Apt, nephew Richard Moore, nephew Forrest “Rusty” Apt, nephew Royce Apt, niece Sheila Apt, cousin Maggie Nicholas, great uncle Calvin Nicholas, great aunt Eva Nicholas. Surviving are his sisters Mary Alberta Nicholas and Freida Moore, cousin Carl Nicholas of Indian Township, cousin Chief William Nicholas and wife Lucy and family, cousin Alex Nicholas and wife Regina and family, cousin Leslie Nicholas and wife Maria and family, cousin Carl Nicholas and wife Brenda and family, cousin Dodie Nicholas and family, cousin Carla Gillespie and family, his niece Stephanie Francis-Soctomah and husband Donald Soctomah and family, nephew Melvin Francis Jr. and wife Tammy Francis and family, Niece Marie Francis and wife Carney Brewer and family, nephew Scott Francis, nephew Steve Francis Sr., great nephew Joseph Francis Stevens and partner Natasha Sapiel and family, nephew Stephen Francis Jr., nephew Denahi Soctomah, nephew Aiden Brewer, niece Jessie Brewer, niece Shannon Labbe, nephew Michael Moore, niece Annie Apt Brackett and family, nephew Eric Apt, niece Diana Gatemen, niece Hannah Currier, nephew Josh Currier, nephew Ryan Currier, and great great nephew Isaiah Francis Stevens and great great niece Zaila Sapiel and many more cousins, uncles and aunts.

Steve also had many godchildren such as Jodi Yarmal-Hodgdon, Jenny Tomah, Peter Neptune Jr., Fred Francis III, and many more. He also had many friends! His best friends were Ginny Mitchell, Cousin Debbie and Martin Nicholas, Leon Sockabasin, Dana Mitchell, John Marshall, Cousin Tom Doyle, Kevin Raye and Fred Francis Jr.

Steve requested to be cremated. He wants a small ceremony and memorial service that will be planned by his sister Mary Alberta Nicholas, niece Stephanie Francis-Soctomah and husband Donald Soctomah that will take place in early August, 2022. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
