Obituary for Joshua Allen Guptill

Baileyville – Joshua “Guppy” Allen Guptill, 33, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Calais Regional Hospital with his family by his side. Josh was born in Calais on July 28, 1980, son of Allen and Jenny Lin (Carter) Guptill. After graduating from Woodland High School, Class of 1998, Guppy moved to Arizona where he lived with his uncle Troy and attended college. Josh returned home and worked various jobs until moving to Tennessee where he managed Premier Rental. When Josh became ill, he moved back home to be close to his family. He loved sports and enjoyed playing basketball, umpiring in Baileyville, hunting, fishing, and spending time at camp with his father and friends. Josh was an avid Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics fan and enjoyed watching the games on TV with his dad. Some of his most cherished times were those spent sitting on the porch and cooking on the grill with his mom. Guppy was truly one of a kind and will be remembered by all for his big heart.
Josh was predeceased by his grandparents Betty and Olyn Guptill, and Paula and Roy Carter; and his great-grandparents, Nanny and Gert. Surviving are his parents Allen and Jenny Lin Guptill of Baileyville; his beloved sister and best friend Alicia Smith and husband Chip of Levant; a special niece whom he loved dearly, Karleigh; a nephew Brock Smith; aunts and uncles, Troy Carter of Chandler, AZ, Sharon and Paul Harriman of Topsfield, Donald Guptill of Bangor, and Brent Guptill of Princeton; many cousins and numerous special friends; and his two feline companions, Kitty and Kitty.
A celebration of Guppy’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais.
