Joyce L. Braley

May 29, 1935 — September 25, 2024

Princeton

Joyce (Penny) Braley went to be with the Lord on 9/25/2024. First and foremost, she was a Christian and life-long student of the bible. She loved singing the hymns and walking in His light, which she did very humbly while giving kindness and support to others along the way. In the end, she needed much care herself and received that from the efficient and loving hospice care teams of Washington and Hancock counties and from her three children who loved, respected, and thought she was the best Mum in the world. Her daughter Linda and husband Ron Rines of Glenburn, son Steve Braley of Princeton, and daughter Laurie and John Kelley of Orland all shared her end-of-life caregiving and she was so grateful and appreciative. She felt blessed to have such a loving family. Besides her three children, she is survived by her grandchildren, their spouses/partners, and her great grandchildren, who put a smile on her face when they enter the room: Mackenzie, TJ, and daughter Lily; Lyndsay and daughters Penelope and Isla; Heidi, Anthony and daughter Jocelyn; Krissy, Clint, and daughter Abigael; Steven, Alysha and children Olivia and James; Katie, Joey and daughter Kaylee; and Dylan and Faith. Also, Marge Braley’s family, whom Penny thought of Braedan, Jameson, Arella, and Remington as her great grandchildren.

Penny was the youngest of nine children by parents, Laura (Estes) and George Field and was born in St. Albans. She married Edward Leslie (Les) Braley, Jr. in 1951 and had 48 beautiful years with the love of her life. They enjoyed traveling, fishing, moose hunting, snowmobiling, playing games/cards, and many more activities with their family and friends.

Penny attended Maine Central Institute, Auburn School of Commerce, and received an Associate Degree in office management from University of Maine at Machias. She was a member of the Sunrise Christian Church at Big Lake campground and supported the ministry run by Ernest and Ellen Carle. She embraced her Christian family who were all very dear to her. She worked for Georgia-Pacific for 19 years in various positions, but mostly in Personnel, retiring in 1995. She and Les lived many years in Nasonville (Princeton), then in Bear Cove on Meddybemps Lake for several years, and after Les’ passing in 1999, Penny moved back to Princeton. She lived in Big Lake Township before moving into Dana Kady’s complex in 2006, where she had lived until two months ago. From her windows she enjoyed the wildlife in the pasture and pond and she called it her paradise. Her neighbors, Judy and Dalton, Mary Lee, Linda, Dana and Sharon (and so many more…Bonnie, Roger, Kay, Phyllis) were her second family and gems for friends. She enjoyed many fun times with them, as well as her Red Hat sisters, the ladies’ Tuesday card/game group, her bible study partner and treasured friend, Susan Bruso, and so many more cherished friends and relatives. We’ll be remiss not to mention that she won ‘The Champ’ cribbage trophy from her sister-in-law Rose, a month before her passing. Les would be proud indeed!

A service will be held at the Sunrise Christian Church on Thursday, October 10 at 2:00 pm. A graveside burial at St. Albans Village Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, she requested for people to simply show kindness and pay forward a blessing they have in their life. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home.
