Calais – Joyce Elaine Dunphy, 58, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015 at home following a courageous battle with cancer. Joyce was born in Oahu, HI on October 3, 1956, daughter of Alvah and Lorraine (Worcester) Curtis. After graduating from Narraguagus High School, Class of 1976, she worked various jobs until meeting her partner, Rona Robb in 1992. They moved to Calais where Joyce became the manager of State Cinemas. Joyce enjoyed sewing, crafts, and helping anyone in need.
She was predeceased by her father Kenneth; a brother, Dana Dunphy; and a sister Paula Brann. Surviving are her loving partner of 22 years, Rona Robb of Calais; her parents Lorraine and Alvah Curtis of Harrington; three brothers, Ronald Dunphy and his companion Hope Alley of Beals Island, Kevin Dunphy of Athens, and Milo Dunphy of Harrington; a special niece, Olivia Jane Mathew and her husband Rodney of Milbridge; many nieces and nephews; her canine companion Tyrone; and her two feline companions Maggie Mae and Randy Lee.
Visitation will be held 1 – 2 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where a celebration of Joyce’s life will begin at 2 p.m. with Anthony Giard officiating.
