Indian Township, Pleasant Point, and Bangor – Juanita “Money” Mary Sopiel, 40, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, February 6, 2016. Juanita was born in Calais on December 10, 1975, daughter of Aloysius “Dike” Sopiel and Beverly Francis. She attended Lee Academy and worked as a waitress for several years with Kwong Wah in Calais, as well as Sandwich Man.
Juanita was predeceased by a sister Stacy; paternal grandparents Arthur and Elizabeth Sopiel; maternal grandparents Frederick Sr. and Ada Francis; an aunt Deanna Francis; and an uncle Frederick Francis Jr. Surviving are her two children, Andre Paul and Justice Bassett of Pleasant Point; her parents, Aloysius “Dike” Sopiel of Indian Township; her mother Beverly Francis of Pleasant Point and her companion Austin Humphries of Perry; a sister Anne Marie Sopiel of Indian Township; a nephew Cody Sopiel of Eastport; her Godparents, Wayne Newell and Sylvia Sockabasin; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and numerous special friends.
Visiting hours will begin 2 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at her father’s house, 540 Peter Dana Point Rd., Indian Township, until 9:00 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Kevin Martin 10 a.m. Saturday, February 13, at St. Anne’s R.C. Church, Peter Dana Point. Burial will follow in the Tribal Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
