Obituary for Judith Lillian McDowell

Princeton – Judith “Judy” Lillian (Stevens) McDowell, 64, passed away peacefully June 28, 2008 at a Boston hospital with her family by her side. She was born March 25, 1944 in Houlton. Judy was a Past Matron of Royal Chapter of Eastern Star. She was a member of the Princeton Congregational Church and the Princeton Rod & Gun Club. Judy was also proud to have been a member of the Princeton Volunteer Ambulance Service. Prior to her marriage, Judy was employed by the Bangor Mental Health Institute as an aide. Judy was predeceased by her parents, Willard Delmont Stevens and Ruth Evelyn (Savage) Stevens. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Stephanie Winkleblech; her brother, David Stevens; and her father and mother-in-law, Chuck & Marion McDowell. One of her life’s greatest tragedies was the death of her son, Kenny, in 1991. Judy is survived by her husband Philip of Princeton; her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth & Ron Seeley of Montville, CT; her son, John McDowell and daughter Mary McDowell, both of Princeton; and her daughter and son-in-law, Lorrie & Louis Nicholas of Mechanicsville, MD. She is also survived by her mother, Lorrie (McLean) Stevens of Houlton; her brother, Ronnie Stevens of FL; her brother and sister-in-law, Irvin and Rhonda Stevens of Ludlow; her sister and brother-in-law, Bebe & Kelley Bishop of New Limerick; her sister and brother-in-law, Zoe & Skip Morphy of Lebanon; grandchildren, Elizabeth Seeley and Abigail and Nathaniel Nicholas, who she cherished with all of her heart. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, additional family members and friends. Some of Judy’s favorite memories were made with her family at their camp on Drew’s Lake in New Limerick. She enjoyed spending time with friends playing cards and Bingo. She also enjoyed spending time with her special companion, her cat Charlie. Judy loved sharing pictures and stories of the best part of her life, her children and grandchildren. There will be a Celebration of her Life at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the Princeton Congregational Church. Judy was truly an inspiration to all who knew her for the courageous way she battled for the past 8 years. In lieu of flowers, her family request donations be sent to CancerCare of Maine, Dana Farber Cancer Institute of Boston, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Judy will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
