Obituary for June Woodbury Howland

Calais – June W. Howland, 87, died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at a Calais nursing home. June was born in St. Stephen, N.B. on August 19, 1921, daughter of the late Edward and Florence (Larner) Williamson. She graduated from Calais Academy, Class of 1939, and went on to graduate from Holy Rosary Business School in St. Stephen. In 1941, June married Harold Howland. After Harold returned from the war, they moved to Portland, where they lived for several years before returning home to Calais. June was employed at the Calais Free Library for many years, and later volunteered as an Activity Assistant for Barnard’s Nursing Home. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and was a member of the First Congregational Church, where she served as a Deacon and was a member of the Women’s Assoc. June enjoyed reading, playing bridge, and spending time with her family and friends. Besides her parents, June was predeceased by her husband, Harold, in 1978. Surviving are three daughters, Gloria Taylor of Pittsfield, MA, Sharon Howland of Waltham, MA, and Gayle Moholland and her husband Bob of Baileyville; five grandchildren, Lisa Taylor of Cape Coral, FL, Karen Dapper and her husband John of Pittsfield, MA, Robert E. Moholland Sr. and his wife Janet of Charlotte, Rebecca Ireland and her husband Wayne of Edinburg, and Amanda Curran and her husband Jay of St. Stephen, N.B.; and nine great-grandchildren, Jesseca Dapper, Felicia and Robert Moholland Jr., Samantha, Alexis, Emilee and Reed Ireland, and Jayden and Ethan Curran.
