Pleasant Point – Karen Ann (Newell) Lewey, 50, passed away at her home on Friday, April 23, 2010. Karen was born in Hartford, CT on November 3, 1959, daughter of the late Kenneth J. Newell Sr. and Mary N. (Nicholas) Newell. She attended Lee Academy and went on to further her education in childhood development. Karen loved children. She was active with the 4H Club, enjoyed being a foster parent and collected memorabilia from the Flintstones. Karen will be remembered as a loving, nurturing and caring person. She was a “rock” for the family and always had an open door policy for anyone who needed someone to lean on. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Newell Jr. Surviving are her husband James Lewey of Pleasant Point; six children, Serge Newell of Pleasant Point, Lee Ann Newell and her companion Scott Williams of Calais, Carrie Newell of Portland, Joseph Newell of Pleasant Point, Kristy Newell of Pleasant Point, and Adam Newell and his companion Sheena Sockabasin of Eastport; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Rhonda Smith of Pleasant Point, Kate Cling and her husband Marvin of Pleasant Point, Marie Gabriel and her companion Brian Stanley of Pleasant Point, and Judy Smiley and her husband Jeff of Indian Township; a brother Perry Newell Sr. and his wife Marlene of Bangor; her faithful canine companion Honey; and many niece, nephews and God children. Visiting hours will begin 3 p.m. Monday, April 26, at her home, 78 Passamaquoddy Rd., Pleasant Point, until 10 a.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Eugene Gaffey 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann R.C. Church, Pleasant Point. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
