Al Ain, United Arab Emirates; Howland & Eastport – Kasey Shannon Vicaire, International Teacher, died unexpectedly at the age of 37, on January 25, 2017, at the Emirates National School in Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates. She was born in Waterville on December 14, 1979.
Kasey enjoyed her childhood years in Eastport, and graduated from Eastport Elementary School. She attended Shead High School in her freshman year. She applied to the Maine School of Science and Mathematics in Limestone and, portfolio in hand, she set out to convince them in an interview to skip her a grade so that she could attend as a junior. She graduated from MSSM on June 14, 1997.
Kasey entered the University of Maine at Orono and graduated with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Anthropology. She received her Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education on August 24, 2007.
For five years, Kasey taught at RSU #67 in the Junior High School in Lincoln. Many of her colleagues became life-long friends and her students still Facebook with her today. Her love of learning and love of life were the foundation of her teaching style.
Still, she longed to travel and experience new cultures and new interests. She applied to the American International School of Subic in the Philippines in 2013 and worked there for a year. She then applied to the Emirates National School in Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates and was in her third year of teaching there. During that time, she was able to travel during her breaks to over twenty-two different countries on four different continents. Kasey followed her dream, and made it a reality.
Her family, friends, students, and colleagues shared her adventures through her many stories, gifts, and pictures. She brought the world to them.
Kasey is survived by her parents Lillian and Stephen Randall of Eastport and Richard Vicaire of Howland; her brother and his wife Keane and Linda Vicaire and their two children, niece Nora Vicaire and nephew Gavin Vicaire of Machias; her step-sister and her husband, Beth and Warren Riddle and their two children, Shanea and Katelynn of OR; her step-brother Stephen B. Randall and his son Kaiden of OR; her grandmother Phyllis Vicaire of Mattawamkeag and step-grandmother Jane Randall of Eastport. She has numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends who will miss her greatly.
The administration of the school in Al Ain, with guidance from Human Resource Director, Ammar Issa, held a special memorial to honor Kasey for staff, students, parents and friends and an informal gathering was held at Kasey’s residence by close friend, Claire. Their generosity and support are appreciated by the family.
Kasey’s spirit lives on in the hearts of family and friends. A celebration of that spirit is planned for Saturday, May 27th at 1:00 p.m. at Eastport Elementary School for those who knew her and were touched by her sense of fairness, her generosity, her love of learning and her love of life.
