Kathleen Edith Cochran, 87, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023, at home surrounded by family. Kathleen was born in Claremont, New Hampshire, on December 11, 1935, daughter of Hazen and Marion (Robb) Bagley Sr.
Kay was raised in Grand Lake Stream and in 1953 graduated from Lee Academy, where she played basketball. She attended Husson University and worked for Ware Knitters, cleaning camps, and plowing snow until starting her career as a C.N.A. On February 8, 1958, she married her high school classmate, Lyman Cochran. Kay was employed with Calais Regional Hospital for ten years, and Barnard’s Nursing Home for over 20 years, retiring in 1991. Following her retirement, she was able to spend more time with her grandchildren which brought her much enjoyment. Family was everything to Kay. She was always the top fan in the stands of her grandchildren’s games and was affectionately called “Grammy Kay” by numerous children in the local area. Kay was a member of Lee Academy Alumni, St. Croix Wanderers, and the Grand Lake Stream Congregational Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, fishing, hunting, snow sledding, ice fishing, RV’ing, and spending time at the family camp on Farrow Lake in Topsfield.
In addition to her parents Hazen and Marion Bagley, Kay was predeceased by a son-in-law Shawn Donahue; siblings Hazen George Bagley Jr. and Mary Lou Thornton; mother-in-law Elizabeth Cochran; brothers-in-law Clyde and Harold Cochran; and nieces Annette Goode and husband Pat, and Shelley Thornton. Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Lyman Cochran; four children, Mitchell Cochran and wife Donna of Talmadge, Jeffrey Cochran and wife Terry of Topsfield, Betty Phelps and husband Robert of Topsfield, and Darlene Donahue of Baileyville; nine grandchildren, Courtney Macdonald and husband Scott of Bangor, Tyler Cochran and companion Anneka Ortiz of Howland, Thomas Cochran and companion Alaina Hamilton of Topsfield, Taylor Byers and husband Brent of Bradley, Ryan Beers and wife Mikayla of Baileyville, Jalen Phelps and fiancé Sarah Gadue of Hudson, Nathan Phelps and fiancé Jessica Moreside of Baileyville, Shawn Donahue Jr. of Baileyville, and Teagan Donahue of Baileyville; eight great-grandchildren, twins Blair and Blake, Madelynn, Ava, Ellis, Samara, Camryn, and Carson, and was looking forward to the birth of her ninth great-grandchild in February; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Royce “Irman” Thornton of Baileyville, Michelle Bagley of Lee, Dorothy Cochran of CT, and Rose Cochran of CT; numerous nieces and nephews; and her canine companion Bell, and feline companion Buddy.
