Southington, CT & Eastport - Kathleen Jeanette (Cook) Zabel, 91, passed peacefully with loved ones by her side on Thursday, February 10, 2022 after a long battle with illness. She was born on September 12, 1930 in Eastport, Maine to the late Ambrose and Ethel (McShea) Cook.
Kathleen was a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church in Southington. She loved adventure, traveling, learning and music. She was always willing to try something new, first to say “I will,” jet ski, zipline, etc…
Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Harry Zabel, daughter Kathy Jean Zabel-Capers, grandson Joshua Walley, 7 brothers and 9 sisters.
She leaves behind two daughters and one son; Wendy and her husband Steve Ledger of Florida, Pamela Zabel of Bristol, Wayne and his Wife Lisa Zabel of Southington, 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be held in the springtime at Hillside Cemetery, Capen Section, in Eastport, Maine. Mays Funeral Home will be assisting the family with the burial.
A celebration of Kathleen’s life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Hillside Cemetery, Eastport. Plantsville Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling the arrangements.
