Calais – It is with great sadness that the family of Kathryn Irene Gaddis announces her passing on April 26, 2016, at Marshall Healthcare in Machias. Kay was born in Somerville, MA on April 4, 1922. She worked for some time as a pathologist for Mass Women’s Hospital in Roxbury before moving to Maine. Kay worked as a waitress in Calais for many years. She was always wearing a smile. Kay loved people and was especially close to her family. She was a Communicant of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Calais and was a former member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Calais. Kay enjoyed going to the ocean, traveling, and being with her children and family.
She was predeceased by two loves of her life, her daughter Judy Varnum, and her love Richard Frost; and her two sisters, Marian Mitchell and Dorothy Collins. Kay is survived by her daughter JoAnne Spinney; son-in-law Paul; four grandsons, Todd Spinney, Kevin Varnum, Troy Varnum and Chris Hershey; and her extended family Harold, Margaret, Maryanne, Suzanne, and Sherri, and their families.
JoAnne would like to thank the nurses and staff at Marshall Healthcare for their excellent compassionate care they have provided these past years.
A Mass in Memoriam will be celebrated by Rev. Kevin Martin 11 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2016 at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Calais Ave., Calais. Burial will follow in Calais Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
