Edmunds Township – Keith C. Damon, 84, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009 at a Bangor hospital with his family by his side. Keith was born in Pembroke on October 19, 1924, son of the late Roy and Edwina (Cambridge) Damon. After school, Keith worked on his family farm. He married Joyce Suddy in Calais on June 10, 1944. In Feb. of 1945, Keith was drafted into the Army Air Corps, where he served his country as a longshoreman and cook in Leyte, Guam and Hawaii. Upon his discharge in 1946, he returned home and worked at Hallowell Lumber Co. Shortly after, he began his career with the Maine D.O.T., starting as a laborer and working up to a heavy equipment operator, and finally foreman. Even after his retirement in 1980, Keith loved to stay busy. He was an active member of the Dennysville-Edmunds Congregational Church, where he served as Deacon for many years, a 60 year member of the Gardner-Foss Post #169 American Legion, and a member of the Grange in Charlotte and Dennysville. Keith enjoyed farming, gardening, cutting wood, camping, traveling, teaching his grandchildren to drive, and assisting with building the family camp. In addition to his parents, Keith was predeceased by a grandson, Jay Suddy; three brothers, Edmund, Willis and Lawrence; two sisters, Betty Faucher and Joyce Cox; and a sister-in-law, Inez Suddy. Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Joyce Damon; five children, Bonnie Higgins and her husband Peter of Bangor, Douglas Damon and his wife Cherie of Bangor, Marguerite Tourtillotte and her husband Earle of Boothbay Harbor, Allen Suddy and his wife Mary Ann of Bangor, and Karen Seeley of Edmunds; seven grandchildren, Forrest Higgins and his wife Sandra of Woodbury, CT, Darren Higgins and his wife Karrie of Naugatuck, CT, Shawn Damon and his wife Katie of Madison, CT, Derek Damon and his fiancé Andrea Johnstone of Kassel, Germany, Magen Chryplewicz and her husband Tom of Orlando, FL, Meredith Plummer and her husband Quinton of Jefferson, and Scott Suddy of Portland; seven great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Shauna, Emilie and Lauren Higgins, and Parker, Drew and Paisley Damon; four sisters, Grace Hatton of Charlotte, Ruth Nuttall of Charlotte, Rowena Cousins and her husband Charles of Princeton, and Maybelle Pratt and her husband Wilbur of Kissimmee, FL; three brothers-in-law, Albert Suddy and his wife Anna of Veazie, Willard Suddy and his wife Julia of Eastport, and Clarence Suddy and his wife Jane of Eastport; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Crosby of Baileyville and Carolyn Robertson and her husband Herman of Eastport; and many special nieces and nephews.
