Calais – Keith N. Guttormsen, 76, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Atlantic Rehab & Nursing Center. Keith was born in Greensburg, PA on May 27, 1935, son of the late Edward and Ethel (Edgard) Guttormsen. After graduating from Rock Island High School in Illinois, he attended Valparaiso University until enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1954. Keith served as an Air Traffic Controller in the Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1974 at Loring Air Force Base. On December 31, 1955, he married Annette Phillips. In 1974 he and his wife Annette returned to her home state of Kentucky. There he helped on the family farm and drove a school bus, as well as owning and operating his own electrical company called A&K Electric. In 1986 they returned to Loring Air Force Base where Keith worked as the manager for the Officer’s Club. He then was the sales manager for Keddy’s Motor Inn until relocating to Calais where he became the Director of the Chamber of Commerce for over 13 years. Keith served on the Board of Trustees for Calais Regional Hospital and was proud to be involved with the building of the new hospital. He was a member of Sherman Bros. Post #3 American Legion in Calais. Keith enjoyed model trains, watching movies, reading, and crossword puzzles. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant daughter Linda. Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Annette; four children, Edward Guttormsen of Honolulu, HI, Lisa Cardin and her husband Neal of Sonora, KY, Andria Henderson and her husband Earl of Summersville, KY, and LynnAnne Rose and her husband David of Cincinnati, OH; five grandchildren, James Henderson of Summersville, KY, Marcia Henderson of Lexington, KY, Matthew Melton and his wife Lori of Hodgenville, KY, and Jacob and Joshua Rose, both of Cincinnati, OH; three great-grandchildren, Taylor-Ann, Ryleigh and Jordyn; his mother-in-law Marie Phillips of Kimper, KY; a brother-in-law Harvey Phillips of Kimper, KY; two nieces, one nephew, and many dear friends. A celebration of Keith’s life will be held 6 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2011 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Burial will be held at a later date. Donations in Keith’s memory may be made to any medical association dealing with Diabetes, Parkinson’s Disease, Cancer or Heart.
