Princeton – Kenneth Clifton Neale Sr., 86, died peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Calais Regional Hospital. Kenneth was born in Baileyville on January 27, 1922, son of the late Fred and Bessie (Carleton) Neale. He attended the Baileyville area schools and married Ernestine Lillian Leighton on June 7, 1941. Kenneth was a WWII Veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps as an Amphibious Tractor Crewman in the Asiatic Pacific Area where he participated in action at Okinawa. After the war, Kenneth returned to Maine where he worked in the shipyards in Portland, the majority of his working years as a millwright for St. Croix Paper Co., and in later years as a caretaker on Fisher’s Island, NY. He attended the Bethal Chapel in Talmadge and later the People’s United Methodist Church in Baileyville. Kenneth had a love for animals. He owned and operated Oak Hill Farm where he was proud of his Hereford Cattle and being a beekeeper. Kenneth enjoyed flying his airplane, writing poetry, drawing and was an avid Boston Celtic’s fan. He will also be remembered for being a natural musician, playing his guitar and harmonica, and sharing his musical talent as a member of the 4 Corners Barbershop Quartet. In addition to his parents, Kenneth was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Pendleton; and his half-brother, Leander Neale. Surviving are his loving wife, Ernestine Neale of Sunrise Care Facility in Jonesport; four children, Tina Barzyk and her husband Michael of Anchorage, AK and Bangor, Kenneth Neale Jr. and his wife Marie of Topsham, Stephen Neale of Baileyville, and Eleanor Martell and her husband Mike of Green Bay, WI; two sisters, Dorothy Crowe of Methuen, MA, and Miriam Libby and her husband Eldon, who was like a special brother to Kenneth, of Baileyville; nine grandchildren, Jeff Diadone and his wife Lori of Baileyville, Terry Diadone and his wife Lori of Princeton, Scott Neale and his wife Erin of Saco, Ryan Neale of Topsham, Troy Neale and his wife Jennifer of Bangor, Patti Wormell and her husband Peter of Augusta, Mark Neale and his fiancé Jennifer of Trenton, RI, Corey Martell and his wife Tammy of Green Bay, WI, and Lucas Martell of Green Bay, WI; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous dear friends; and his special feline companion, Kitty. Kenneth will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
