Baileyville and Iowa – Laura Lee (Ripley) Martin passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in Davenport, Iowa. Laura Lee was born September 11, 1961 to the late Charlotte MacArthur and Franklyn Ripley. She graduated from Woodland High School, Class of 1980. Laura Lee and Glenn Martin gave birth to their one and only child, Jason, on April 10, 1982. Jason was her world and they shared a very special bond. Laura Lee worked for Creative Apparel from 1986 to 2005, where her co-workers said she was an exceptional seamstress.
Laura Lee moved to Iowa with her loving companion, Mark Mounts, in 2005. She went to work at Ridgecrest Village in 2007 and was still there at the time of her passing. Her co-workers said she went above and beyond her job duties to make the elderly happy. She will be missed by co-workers and clients, for her smile and kindness.
Laura Lee is survived by her loving companion of nearly 15 years, Mark Mounts of Dixon, Iowa; sister Esther and her husband Mike Kolinski; a brother Ricky MacArthur of Wisconsin; brother Brad Kneeland and sister Michelle Paige, both of Louisiana; special brother-in-law Tommy Merritt; two special sisters-in-law Janet Johnson and Nancy Lincoln; mother-in-law Avis McIntyre; three special nephews, Bobby Barter, Tom Merritt, and Adam Casey; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends, including her life-long best friend Lori and Jeff Diadone, and special co-worker and friend Becky Lloyd.
In addition to her parents, Laura Lee was predeceased by her only child and love of her life, Jason; former husband Glenn Martin; her grandmother, Nana Prout; her sister and friend Sandra Merritt; brother Allard MacArthur; sister-in-law Karen Martin Church; and a nephew Chad Casey.
Laura Lee will be truly missed by all who were lucky enough to have known her.
There was a memorial service held for Laura Lee on May 6, 2015 at the Koning Chapel at Ridgecrest Village in Davenport, Iowa. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Woodland Cemetery in Baileyville. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
