Obituary for Lawrence Keene Carney

St. Stephen & Eastport – Lawrence Keene Carney, 73, passed away March 31, 2016 at Calais Regional Hospital. Larry was born in Eastport on June 5, 1942 to Frank and Edna (Heckman) Carney where grew up and enjoyed spending his summers later in life.

He attended Shead Memorial High School and then went on to earn his teaching degree and taught for many years at St. Stephen Elementary School.

In addition to his parents Larry was predeceased by his first wife, Marilyn (Carr) Carney.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three daughters, Jane Stevenson and her husband, Vern of Raymond, Pam Carney and her companion, Peter Davis of Effingham, NH and Laurie McCabe and her husband, David of North Berwick; son, Frank Carney and his companion, Mona Gervais of Alfred; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepchildren, Kelly Haley and her husband, Larry of St. Stephen, Cindy Essensa of St. John and T.J. Essensa of Whistler; five step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren and his brother-in-law and great friend, John Carr of Calais.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2nd at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Donations in Larry’s memory may be made to an animal shelter of one’s choice.
