Winterport & Calais – Lawrence John Fader, 63, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. John was born in St. Stephen, NB on March 14, 1950. He graduated from St. Stephen High School, Class of 1968, and attended St. Thomas University in Fredericton, NB. In 1969, he moved to the United States and worked at Passamaquoddy Lumber in Princeton until enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, serving as a Radio Electronics Technician. While on active duty in 1989, he proudly became a U.S. citizen. John was a veteran of Operation Desert Shield / Desert Storm and retired in May, 1992 with 20 years of faithful service. John moved back to Calais and worked as a security guard for Hall Security Services at Georgia Pacific Mill in Baileyville from 1992 until 1999. In 1999, he worked for Walmart in Calais until 2001. John was a dedicated member of the American Legion, attending meetings in whatever town he was in. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading. In addition to his parents George and Maud Fader, he was predeceased by his foster parents, Ruth and Hildreth Hawthorne and their son Cyril; and one brother, Timothy Fader. Surviving are his loving companion of 7 years, Lynda Cartier of Winterport; three children, Julie Carrier and her husband Michael of Calais, Timothy Fader and his wife Shannon Pike Fader of Brewer, and Amy McCoy and her husband Mitchell of Northwood, ND; five grandchildren, Courtney, Devon, Ian, Lane, and Destiny; his special friend of 44 years, Peggy Fader of Calais; six sisters, Carole, Patricia, Rosaleen, Joanne, Jeanne and Ann; four brothers, Edward, Peter, Robin and Kevin; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, his beagle Buddy. A celebration of John’s life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. The family wishes to thank all of John’s family and friends for their loving support during their loss.
