Calais – Leona Patricia Adams, 68, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at an Ellsworth hospital following a lengthy battle with diabetes. Leona was born in Boston, MA on April 24, 1944, daughter of the late Anthony and Leona (Dudley) Doyle. She graduated from Calais Academy and worked as a caretaker, as well as a CNA for Barnard’s Nursing Home. While in her 40’s, Leona started to lose her eyesight. She was proud of her achievement in learning Braille as quick as she did and loved music, spending time with family and friends, and going to Boston to see her family. Leona was a member of the Cooper Grange and enjoyed arts and crafts, helping others and loved cats. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Richard Adams; a son Charles Adams; sisters Thelma and Millie; her brother Bill; and many of her feline companions. Surviving are her son Richard Adams and his wife Amanda of Calais; one brother Walter Doyle; special sister-in-law Sylvia Day; special niece Mary Stewart of Brookline, MA; many nieces and nephews; special friends Louise Lee and Helen Brooks; and many other dear friends. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2012 at Dennysville Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
