Machias – Lillian J. “Bunty” Gallant, 79, died Monday, November 3, 2008 at a Bangor hospital. Lillian was born in Eastport on October 31, 1929, daughter of the late Thomas and Irene (Pettigrove) Gallant. She graduated from the Maine School of Practical Nursing in 1970. Lillian was employed by Maine Medical Center in Portland and worked on the surgical team that performed the first kidney transplant in the State of Maine. She returned to Machias and worked at Marshall Manor, Sunrise Workshop, Parlin Gardens and most recently enjoyed her work and friends at the Bluebird Restaurant. Lillian was a member of the Center Street Congregational Church United Church of Christ in Machias. She was greatly loved by the entire community. Lillian had many, many friends that will miss her. Lillian, known as “Bunty”, was always there to help anyone in need. Her kind heart and generous spirit will never be forgotten. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Sheila Gallant. Surviving are her daughter, Irene Seeley of N.C.; her sister, Nanette Lowe and her husband Paul of Eastport; her brother, Ronald Gallant and his wife Susan of Salina, KS; two grandchildren, Michael Seeley and Thomas Seeley and his wife Tracy, all of N.C.; a great-granddaughter, Jasmine ; her extended family; dearest friend Barbara Sawyer of Machias and her daughter, Ann, and their entire family; and special friend Hope Prout and her family. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
