Princeton – Lillian Frances (Brown) LaPlant, 79, died Monday, June 20, 2011. She was born April 21, 1932 in Calais, daughter of Bernard W. and Lillian (Hold) Brown. On June 9, 1950, Frances married the love of her life, Murray L. LaPlant and together they shared 61 years of marriage and raised two loving sons. Frances spent many years working as the bookkeeper of the family business, Murray LaPlant, Inc. By her family, she was considered the most important cog in the wheel. Frances was a communicant of St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Baileyville, a member of the Grand Lake Stream Historical Society, Princeton Rod and Gun Club and the St. Croix Wanderers. Frances loved camping and had wonderful memories of her trips to Alaska, Florida and many state fairs. She especially loved going to the Fryeburg Fair with Marion and Avon, playing cards with Ivah and Chick, Raleigh and Joanne. Frances loved any opportunity to play the guitar and would feed any animal, cat, dog, bird or fox that crossed into her dooryard. Frances was very proud of being from Grand Lake Stream and graduating from Lee Academy in 1949. She was well known for her knitting especially socks and loved for her baking of biscuits, rolls and pumpkin pie. Frances was very good natured, always smiling and friendly to everyone. She has been a wonderful role model for all that knew and loved her. In addition to her beloved husband, Murray LaPlant, Frances is survived by her two sons, Ronald T. LaPlant and his wife Kathy, and Stephen M. LaPlant and his wife Cori, all of Princeton; her sister Marion Calligan Staples of Grand Lake Stream, and her brother William Tracy and his wife Joan of Charlotte; her sister-in-law Ivah Daggett and her brother-in-law Raleigh and his wife Joanne LaPlant. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Tara and her husband Michael Dwelley, Kristin and her husband Kristofor McAlpine, Matthew and his wife Megan LaPlant, and Nathan LaPlant and his girlfriend Eryn Crowe; her great-grandsons, Tyler and Ian LaPlant, Colin, Cameron and Landon Dwelley and Ryan McAlpine; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Fran was predeceased by her parents, brothers Bernard Leo Brown and infant Anthony Brown, and an infant daughter Lucy Marie LaPlant. Relatives and friends may call 6 – 9:00 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father James Plourde 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Baileyville. Burial will take place at the Princeton Cemetery, followed by a time at the Princeton Rod and Gun Club.
