Obituary for Lily Lou Desjardin

Baileyville – Lily Lou Desjardin, 80, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 at her home with her family by her side. Lily was born in St. Croix, New Brunswick on June 15, 1934, daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret (Enman) Lounder. After attending school in St. Croix and McAdam, she moved to Toronto. Lily eventually returned home and moved to Fredericton where she worked for the Provincial Motor Vehicle Dept. while attending night classes. On August 26, 1962, she married Robert Desjardin and they made their home in Princeton. Upon the unexpected passing of her husband Robert, Lily moved to Baileyville in 1983. Lily was a member of the Princeton Rod & Gun Club, was an avid reader, and prior to her illness enjoyed fishing, hunting, horses, and playing cribbage on Friday nights with her friends at the rod and gun club.

In addition to her parents, Lily was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1978; three sisters, Cora “Coie” Copley, Barbara Ford, and infant sister Alice Lounder; and a brother, Alan Lounder. Surviving are her daughter Judy McAlpine and husband David of Baileyville; two grandchildren whom she adored, Mylissa Welch and husband Daniel of Boothbay, and Kristofor McAlpine and wife Kristin of Hampden; five great-grandchildren, Alexis, Sydney, and Liam Welch, and Ryan and Jaxson McAlpine; a sister June Pine of Waite; brother-in-law Ernest Ford of Calgary, AB; dear friends Penny Braley of Princeton, Carmen Sigworth of Augusta, and Barry McAlpine of Baileyville; Christine Wormell of Augusta and her two children whom Lily called her “adopted grandchildren”, Abby and Zachary Wormell; and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to her caregivers who went above and beyond, Paula Dunne, Lisa Smith, Freda McIver, Chrissy Parker, Calais Home Health, Kristen Babbs and the staff at St. Croix Regional Family Health Care in Princeton.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Princeton Cemetery. Donations in Lily's memory may be made to PAWS Brave Hearts, 368 South St., Calais, ME 04619. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
