Louis D. Cox (Luke) passed unexpectedly on March 5 at Calais Regional hospital. Luke was born November 1, 1935, to Bernard and Ruth (Smith) Cox. Luke graduated from Dennysville High School in 1954. On October 11, 1958, he married Sylvia Sadler. They were side by side for 64 years. Luke entered the Airforce in 1957 where he worked as a mechanic. He returned to Edmunds in 1961 where they raised 5 children. Luke had many jobs and was a jack of all trades. If anyone needed something fixed, he was the man. His longest job was working for Thomas Dicenzo. He retired from Dicenzo's in 2000. During retirement he worked with his brother Dana on the farm. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, and taking rides with his friend and neighbor Jack Brown. Recently he went for rides with Jack's son Ricky. Ricky gave Luke his last ride Saturday night in the ambulance. Luke would not have wanted it any other way.
Luke was predeceased by his father, mother, sister, Esther Ward, and 5 brothers: Gerald, Gib, Bernard (Bun), John, and Sam.
Luke is survived by his wife Sylvia Cox of Edmunds; his daughter Sandy Dull and fiancée Randy Ducat of Tiffin, Ohio; his four sons: Wayne and Susan from Pembroke, Ricky and Sherri from Eastport, David and Helen from Corinth, and Randy from Edmunds; his grandchildren Troy, Kimberly, Ricky II, Kristin, Michele, Samantha, Ronald III, Bonnie Jean, Bennett, Ellie, and Damon; one brother Dana Cox and his wife Joyce. Many, many nieces and nephews along with 10 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made in his honor to the Dennys River Ambulance, or the Dennysville fire department.
Luke always said he never met a stranger. Everyone was a friend. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed watching the Red Sox. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
