Calais – Louis “Red” L. Morrison, 91, passed away Friday, June 14, 2013 at the home of his daughter, Debbie and her fiancé Patrick, in Calais. Louis was born in St. Stephen, NB on November 17, 1921, son of the late Louis F. and Esther (Curran) Morrison. After graduating from Calais Academy he entered the Army Air Corps and served during WWII as an airplane maintenance technician. While stationed in Monroe, LA, he met Margaret Judkins. They were married in Monroe on September 4, 1943. Following his service, Louis and Margaret moved back to Maine and he worked at Todd’s Hardware until they closed. He attended barber school in Lewiston and opened Red’s Barber Shop in the St. Croix Hotel. Eventually Louis moved the shop into his home on Price Street in Calais. He was a Communicant of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, and a member of Sherman Bros. Post #3 American Legion, both in Calais. Louis enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at his camp on Pennamaquan Lake in Charlotte, and most importantly, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret; a brother Frank Morrison; and a son-in-law Gregory Olsen Smith. Surviving are his three children, Linda McLaughlin and her husband Butch of Calais, David Morrison and his wife Beverly of Baileyville, and Debbie Olsen Smith and her fiancé Patrick Ashley of Calais; four grandchildren, David McLaughlin and his wife Hanna of Holden, Jeff McLaughlin and his wife Sarah of Wilmington, NC, Stuart Morrison of Tucson, AZ, and Julie McPhee and her husband Brad of Baileyville; two step-grandchildren, Krista Prue and her husband Matt of Glenburn, and Kim Hill of Atlanta, GA; and nine great-grandchildren, Lucas, Natasha, Emma, Tyler, Jensen, Kate, Sadie, Lauren, and Courtney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Rob Lupo 10 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2013 at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Calais. Burial will follow in Calais Cemetery with military honors. Donations in Louis’ memory may be made to the Frank N. Beckett Center, PO Box 384, Calais, ME 04619.
