Obituary for Madalyn Raye Perkins (Brown)

Baileyville – Madalyn “Brownie” Raye Perkins, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 26, 2015 at Calais Regional Hospital. Brownie was born at home on March 7, 1937 to Thomas and Alice (Lank) Brown on Campobello Island, NB. There she enjoyed a childhood made wonderful by her large family and a close community in Wilson's Beach. After meeting the love of her life, Vaughn, in April of 1955, they married in August of the same year. Together they relocated to Baileyville and began a family. Brownie's passion above all was being a mother, and later a grandmother. Having four children, she was always busy keeping a meticulously clean home and doing all those things that moms do behind the scenes. She was a wonderful cook and spent many hours sewing clothing for her children and herself. Once her children were grown, she enjoyed a multitude of craft projects that included crocheting, knitting, quilting and woodworking. She made beautiful things, but very rarely kept them for herself. She loved to shower those handmade gifts on those she loved. She didn't limit her generosity to those related by blood. She was very giving and always available to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. In addition to her parents Madalyn was predeceased by her husband, Vaughn Perkins; sister, Rheta Mitchell and brothers, Chesley Brown and Elwin Brown. Surviving are her four children, Rodney Perkins and his wife Linda of Marshall, VA, Nancy Day and her husband Geoffrey of Berwick, Catherine Wilcox of Alexander and Pamela Parady of Topsham; one sister, Gwen Galley and her husband Clinton of St. John; one brother, Thomas Brown and his wife Nancy of Campobello; nine grandchildren, Corey, Terry and Stephanie Perkins, Heather and Jeremy Day, Autumn, Elijah and Tianna Parady and her special granddaughter, Lauren, who was with her nearly every day; five great grandchildren, Gavin, Hudson, Emma, Willow, Bella and a baby boy on the way; a special son-in-law, Larry Wilcox of Princeton; many nieces and nephews and her constant canine companion, Pugsy. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 29th, at Woodland Cemetery in Baileyville. Arrangements are by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
