Margaret M. Hatt

July 6, 1940 — September 23, 2023

Jonesport

Margaret Mae Alley Hatt, born on July 6, 1940, peacefully departed this world on September 23, 2023, after a brief illness. She was a beloved member of the Jonesport community, having attended Jonesport schools and graduated from Jonesport High School in 1958.

Margaret is survived by her children; son Dwayne Johnson and his wife Pam; son Buddy Hatt and his wife Jeanette; and daughter Heidi Hinkley and her husband Billy. She was a cherished grandmother to 8 grandchildren and the proud great-grandparent of 11. Her circle of love extended far and wide.

Margaret enjoyed various careers, from a telephone operator to an Avon Representative and a dedicated worker at Wyman's in Cherryfield. After her retirement, she was her mother's caretaker, allowing her mother to stay in her home. Later in life, she found comfort and connection in volunteering at Peabody Memorial Library, especially during Santa's Workshop.

Her passions included yard sales, bingo and a love for music, particularly Neil Diamond and Creedence Clearwater.

Much like all lives, Margaret's journey was marked by both joy and sorrow. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maynard and Virginia (Alley) Alley, as well as her infant sister Margaret and beloved granddaughter April. Their spirits now accompany her on her eternal adventure. In life, her dearest friend, Aloma, shared in her laughter and tears, and her Bingo Buddies at Gaelic's brought endless joy to her latter days.

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Down East Community Hospital for their compassionate care.

A private graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Jonesport will honor Margaret's life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial donations to Peabody Memorial Library's Children's Book Fund at: Peabody Memorial Library, PO Box 210, Jonesport, Maine 04649.  Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
