CALAIS – Margaret P. Peakall, 86, passed away at home on September 11, 2013. Margaret was born to Harry and Daisy (Alexander) Tupper on September 9, 1927 in Calais where she grew up and graduated High School. She married John Stanley Peakall in Calais where they raised their four children and enjoyed over fifty years of marriage. She had a strong work ethic beginning at a young age; she cared for the Jewett family’s daughter as a teenager and continued caring for others throughout her life. Margaret worked as an operator with New England Telephone Co. before her children were born and then returned years later transferring to Ellsworth before retiring with the company. She also worked at Hathaway’s Shirt Company and led as Den Mother for the Cub Scouts when her sons were young. Margaret was a generous and loving woman who appreciated every moment spent with her family. She loved holidays and was always sure to remember everyone at Christmas time with great generosity and attention. Margaret was a collector who had an eye for antiques, particularly china, tea cups and cranberry glass. Shopping and reading articles from her collection of Better Homes and Gardens magazine were great hobbies of hers. Margaret loved the Lord. In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband, John Stanley Peakall Sr.; son, John Stanley Peakall Jr. and two sisters, Betty Burgess and Dorothy Damon. She will be sadly missed by her three children, Myron Peakall and his wife Darcey of Brewer, Jeff Peakall of Calais and Beverly Barlow and her husband Timothy of Ellsworth; brother, Harry Tupper of Searsport; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14th at the First Baptist Church, North St., Calais with Pastor Bob Hinton officiating. Committal will follow at Calais Cemetery.
