Obituary for Marguerite Louise Chambers

Eastport, ME and Minot, ND – Marguerite Louise Chambers, 95, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017 in Eastport following declining health. Marguerite was born on a farm in southwest Minot, ND on March 21, 1922, daughter of Walter and Bessie (Farris) Edwards.

She attended Minot Public Schools and on April 8, 1944, she married her life-long sweetheart, Ervin Chambers, in Seattle, WA. Marguerite worked at many retail stores in Minot before starting at the Minot State University bookstore, where she retired in 1986 as the Manager. She was a member of 1st Presbyterian Church in Minot where she was a Sunday School Teacher and later served as Deacon. Marguerite was a Girls Scout leader for five years, and was a member of Republican Women, Minot Elkettes, Women of Moose, and several bridge clubs including Minot Duplicate. She loved reading, crosswords and word finds, and playing cards with her friends, especially poker.

In addition to her parents, Marguerite was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ervin; a sister Katherine White; and a brother William Edwards. Surviving are her daughter, Judy Knapp and husband John of Eastport, ME; sister-in-law Celesta Edwards of Minot, ND; nieces and nephews, Shawneen and Terry Voiles of Minot, ND, Jared Edwards of Minot, ND, Sherrie and Jay Diede of Minot, ND, Kip and Denise Vandenoever of Eugene, OR, Pete and Terry Vandenoever, Billings, MT, and Heide Banner of Eugene, OR; a special great-nephew Cort Voiles; and many cousins.

A Celebration of Marguerite’s Life will be held at a later date in Minot, ND. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marguerite’s memory may be made to either Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, or Minot State University. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport, ME.
