Pembroke - Marguerite Muriel Mains, 95, passed away January 13, 2016, in Eastport. She was born in Pembroke on September 1, 1920, the youngest child of Frank A. and Annie A. (Summerton) Barnes. She was a graduate of Pembroke High School, Class of 1938. She married Ernest L. Mains in 1944 and became a mother to three children, Pauline, Dale and Dennis. She was a member of the Pembroke Ironworks Church, Pembroke Grange, Rebekahs Willow Brook Lodge, Pembroke Alumni Association, Pembroke 4th of July Committee and other community organizations. Marguerite was primarily a homemaker but also worked in local sardine factories, made wreaths and worked on her family's farms.
In addition to her parents, Marguerite was predeceased by her husband Ernest, her daughter and son in law Pauline and Eugene Stanhope and son Dale Mains. She was also predeceased by her siblings Parthenia A. Allen, Florence M. Johnson, Kathleen E. Tarbell, Frank R. Barnes, Estella E. Johnson and Lansing M. Barnes.
She is survived by her son Dennis Mains and her dog Oliver of Pembroke; Grandchildren Kevin and Paula Stanhope, Mark and Michelle Stanhope, all of Pembroke, and Kimberly and Rick Chamblee of Berwick; daughter in law Judy Mains of Raymond, New Hampshire; brother in law Raymond Mains and Family of Connecticut; great-grandchildren Justin and his wife Emily Stanhope of Ellsworth, Shelby Stanhope of Littleton, Candace Stanhope and Matthew Stanhope of Pembroke, and Jacob, Zachariah and Nathanial Chamblee of Berwick; Special nieces Dorothy Johnson, Helen Brown and daughters Cheryl, Colleen and Jan, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be Saturday, January 23, 2016 from 1-2pm with a memorial service immediately following at the Pembroke Ironworks Methodist Church, Little Falls Road, Pembroke, ME. A graveside committal service is planned for the Spring of 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
