Obituary for Marian D Cousins

Alexander – Marian D. Cousins, 94, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Calais Regional Hospital. Marian was born in Alexander on January 2, 1918, the youngest child to H. Delmont and Clara (Dunham) Dwelley. She attended the Hale School in Alexander, Woodland High School, and graduated from Milo High School. On September 8, 1937 she married her one true love, Orris Cousins. Their first home was a tent at a white birch hauling operation. They moved to Portland while Orris worked in the shipyard until moving to Connecticut. While in Connecticut Marian worked for Pratt & Whitney, from where she retired. Following retirement they moved to Alexander and built a home on Pokey Road. Marian was a faithful member of People’s United Methodist Church in Baileyville. She enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage, cooking, feeding the birds, and spending time with her friends and neighbors. In her younger years she loved fishing and being on the lake with her husband Orris. Marian was known by many as “Aunt Mamie”. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband Orris; and her siblings. Surviving are her sister-in-law Dorothy Dwelley of Calais; a special cousin Helen Dwelley of Kissimmee, FL; a special niece Clarice Perkins and her husband Fletcher of Crawford; a special niece and her caretaker Thursa Sawyer of Charlotte; numerous other nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews who were all like her children; many cousins; and her feline companion Emmitt. Visiting hours will be held 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Marian’s life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at People’s United Methodist Church, Third Ave. and Summit St., in Baileyville. Burial will follow in Alexander Cemetery. Donation’s in Marian’s memory may be made to either People’s United Methodist Church, 86 Summit St., Baileyville, ME 04694, or Alexander First Responders, Alexander Town Office, 50 Cooper Rd., Alexander, ME 04694.
