Calais – Marie Theresa McGarrigle, 88, passed away on June 20, 2018 at a Bangor hospital. Marie was born in St. Stephen, NB on January 23, 1930, daughter of the late John Philip and Dora Mildred (Purcell) McGarrigle.
After graduating from Calais Memorial High School, Class of 1948, she attended Holy Rosary Business School in St. Stephen. Marie worked various jobs until beginning her career at Treworgy Pharmacy, where she worked for 50 years. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church where she played the organ and sang for over 60 years. Marie was also a member of the Ladies Sodality, Calais Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Daughters of Isabella, and was the director for both the Sweet Adelines and Rhythm Rompers Quartet.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Jack McGarrigle and Father Michael McGarrigle; sister-in-law, Elsie McGarrigle and three nephews, Dennis Hill, Joseph Hill and Richard McGarrigle.
Surviving are her sister, Doreen Hill of Calais, two nephews, Michael Hill and his wife Debbie of Houston, TX, and John Hill of Calais; three nieces, Rita Yardley and her husband Shawn of Bangor, Diane Hunnewell and her husband Avery of Calais and Susan Esposito of Eastport; sixteen grandnieces and grandnephews and many great grandnieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 24th at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Kevin Martin 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 25th at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, 31 Calais Ave., Calais with burial to follow at Calais Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
